Every bar begins with controlled material preparation and continues through rolling, thermo-mechanical treatment, dimensional review and final release. The result is reinforcement steel made to be consistent in the yard, predictable during fabrication and dependable inside the structure.

The default choice for most Indian reinforced concrete. Balances strength against bending and fabrication behaviour, which keeps it easy to work with on site.

Same 500 N/mm² yield as Fe 500, but the D specification demands markedly higher elongation and tighter sulphur and phosphorus limits — so the bar deforms further before it fails.

The S specification is written for seismic design. It asks for the highest elongation in the 500 class and a tensile-to-yield ratio of at least 1.25, so the bar keeps taking load well past first yield.

Ten percent more yield strength than Fe 500, which lets the designer carry the same load with less steel where the ductility demand is lower.

The combination most high-rise work asks for: the 550 yield class, but with elongation and chemistry limits close to the D-grade discipline of Fe 500D.

The highest grade the Indian Standard covers. Its value is congestion relief — fewer or thinner bars in heavily reinforced members, so concrete can actually be placed and compacted around them.

For designs that call for yield strength above the Fe 600 ceiling. IS 1786:2008 does not cover a 650 class, so this is rolled and released against a specification agreed in writing for the order.
